Handle Buddy

a handle aid for service dogs

 Challenge.

Current service vests for dogs are not compatible with extension handles and do not distribute weight evenly.

Opportunity.

Design a handle that uses MOLLE system which is aimed towards service vests. Reduces long term joint damage, and provides stability to owners. Focuses on the interaction between owner and best friend.

MOLLE:  is an acronym for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment. It is used to define the current generation of load-bearing equipment and backpacks used by a number of NATO armed forces, especially the British Army and the United States Army.

Concept Development.

During this stage, I had to multi-task and design many components for the handle. While going through the process, I started exploring different variations of how it parts would interact with each other. Lastly, design functionality was the key contributor to picking an overall final path.

Low Fidelity Prototyping.

After deciding the overall look and function of the handle, I began to experiment with different proportions. I used corrugated board since it allows for quick iterations. This process led to many alternatives, which aided in getting a sense of the product before going into CAD.
